How I came to be...here

"Here" is a mid-sized town in the south of Malaysia. It's not a tourist town, though I wish it was. Yes we have shopping centres, McDonalds (best ice-cream in town) and even KFC for when you just can't stomach another nasi lemak (coconut rice with condiments or kaya (coconut jam) and butter on bread. It also has several localised department stores - no big names here. But, it's not the same as living in Melbourne, where butchers and vegie shops abound and department stores have an array of clothing and shoes in my size and I don't even have to visit the 'plus' section.

I moved here (from Sorrento, where we rented a house for three years) three years ago with my husband and two kiddies, so that the kids could get to know their other family and some of the chinese / malaysian culture here and perhaps pick up a language or two. We were supposed to stay for two or three years.

Fast forward 3 years and here I am. My husband and I are separated (at my request, our marriage has been rocky for a long time) and I am living here in the same house (though in the back room) so that our two children can be together. It's an OK life, not ideal I know, but for now it will have to do. My kids are together and happy to be with both parents, so that's a good thing.

I'll use this blog to record my life here, the good the bad, the ugly and the beautiful. I'll rant and rave and hopefully say some things that make sense. In the meantime though, I must take my daughter to the doctors. She has a nasty cough and last time she sounded like this, she was diagnosed with mild pneumonia!!

Cheers

hey there jo. good to see your blog.

hope your daughter is ok, and that the trip to the doctor was uneventful.

all things are plodding along here in melbournetown. i must say when you mention nasi lemak it sounds interesting to me, but maybe it's the equivalent of a boring old vegemite sandwich there to you?!

happy blogging. don't forget to visit some other blogs and leave comments - it's the best way to start making friends.

ciao bella.

Thanks for the comment MG. My girl is OK, but she has bronchitis. We'll take care of her and she'll be fine. Nasi Lemak is interesting - coconut rice with lots of fried yummy bits, egg and curried chicken or beef to go with it - but it's not very good for you and the sambal (the best bit) can get a little too spicy. I'll write abou8t the food here one day.
